Iconic Woman Vol.1: Morticia Addams
Mistress of obscure sensuality & the Yin to Gomez’ Yang: Morticia Addams is the first ‘Iconic Woman’ in a series of iconic women celebrating those women who function primarily from their femininity, and the many different ways in which they do so.
Say no to fashion.
The first point I want to highlight is the fact that Morticia is no fashion victim, as this is the absolute foundation of knowing how to be a unique woman like Morticia herself. Morticia has a strong sense of self and remains unyielding to fashion trends or beauty fads. Simply said, she has picked what works for her and sticks to it, leaving fashion whims to the feeble and insecure.
Not buying into fashion whims however does not mean that a woman who inspires to live like Morticia should slop away in old rags. Morticia always looks meticulously put together and chooses only the best fabrics and smartest cuts for her figure hugging attire. It is uncertain whether Morticia hires a personal designer that puts together her dresses or if she is a DIY mistress herself, but one thing you can be sure of is that her wardrobe is custom made. Morticia would most likely advice you to befriend a tailor, hand pick the best fabrics yourself, and let him/her sow the dresses straight onto you for full dramatic impact.
Glamour over comfort.
Morticia certainly knows how to make an entrance in that wiggle dress of hers. She has chosen glamour over comfort, and it works for her every dramatic little shuffle she takes. If you’d like to adopt the seemingly effortless feminine charms that Morticia embodies, look for clothes that slightly restrict your movement, we are not talking full bodied corset organ wrenching action here, but look for the type of dress that will give you that fine wiggle in your step, there are few things more feminine and exquisite. And while we’re on the subject, I don’t think I have to tell you that if you’re going for the Morticia vibe, pastels are out of the question.
Adoration and dedication.
Wildly present all over The Addams Family movies and television show is the constant simmering affection and lust Morticia and her love Gomez have for one another. Gomez is often seen grabbing her in a delirium of passion while he kisses her from one hand, tracing all over her arm, shoulder and neck to the other hand. A dramatic gesture that is truly befitting of a Queen such as Morticia. Just one look across the dinner table or an uttering of French from her side and Gomez finds himself lost in desire. Morticia and her loving husband never ended their honeymoon phase and know how to keep the fire burning.
If Morticia would quote anyone on the subject of love and desire, it would be Oscar Wilde: “Never love anyone who treats you like you’re ordinary.”
Loyalty above all.
Everything Morticia does and all that she surrounds herself with signal one big message: she is a loyal creature. A loyal creature that should not be crossed with bad intentions, however. Morticia devotes herself endlessly and passionately to her loved ones, and – as said in the 1991 Addams Family movie – would “gladly feast on those who would subdue” her family.
Be opinionated, but know that it cures many a social ailment to remain in the silent role of the observer until you can strike. Morticia knows well that only fools pick fights. She takes inspiration from the spider, who builds it’s clever web in the knowledge that, with due time the fly will present itself on a silver platter.
Take pleasure in the dark side of life.
Whether it’s beheading roses, engaging in seances or reveling in thunder and miserably rainy nights, Morticia has a preference for the obscure.
The pleasure she takes in some of her dark hobbies showcase her deep passion for life. In order to embrace the darker sides of your life, find out what gives you a slight bit of nervousness and go play there. The thought here is to enhance your life experience by pushing your boundaries and facing that what you fear in order to live a broader spectrum of feelings and emotions. Morticia understands that those who dare to celebrate the dark and depravities in life truly know how to live.
